Hoja Santa, meaning “sacred leaf” in Spanish, is a Mexican pepper leaf native to Central America. The large, velvety, heart-shaped leaf is an herb similar to cilantro in that it has a unique flavor and is heavily used throughout Mexican Cuisine in salsas, moles, pozoles, and as wraps for meat, seafood and tamales.
